This year we saw an incredible boom in eCommerce sales. There was a ton of change as a pandemic hit in February/March of 2020, with many brands resisting the need to adapt or not realizing the depth of the situation.

By now, even brands that initially resisted eCommerce have begun to create websites and implement online shopping systems.

Mobile shopping has seen another huge increase and so, focusing on your website’s mobile experience is key. With more than 50% of purchases being made through mobile devices now, the user experience on mobile should be a priority as more people become comfortable shopping on their phones.

3. Incorporating Everyday Items

People are also shopping online for more everyday items like groceries, grooming products, healthcare appointments (telemedicine), and food delivery. By creating an experience that incorporates these items and makes them easy to acquire, you can grow your eCommerce business.

4. Delivery and Shipping

As a result of more shopping for everyday items online, eCommerce providers have had to factor in the speed and cost of shipping. There is a huge demand for fast and free shipping because people are now buying necessities online, which means they needed them yesterday.

There’s also a convenience factor because as much as people love to hate Amazon, they still use it as opposed to unreliable government services like USPS or more expensive private services like FedEx. That’s the economies of scale factor at work for you.

5. Augmented Reality

With more purchases being made online, seeing how items look in your home is more important than ever before.

In fact, a bike store on Shopify recently launched an AR program so you can see what the bike looks like in your living room. You can explore its features in the comfort of your own home.

You could also use Live Selling to give a more in-depth showcase of your items, or simply record a product video that is casual and authentic, old school Zappos style.

6. Authenticity

Speaking of the old school, it’s important to remain authentic and focus on building a relatable brand online. Shoppers are smart online! They are looking for a brand with a story, not just any other dropshipping site. Having a legitimate brand and product are key factors to having success with your eCommerce store.
